About the Artist:
Bobbe Gentry
Bobbe Gentry has been
an artist all of her life, originally working in
crayons, later in oil paints, and eventually finding her
spirit in clay. She began her formal studies at Sam
Houston University in Texas, studying painting. Over the
years, she continued her studies in Connecticut,
Virginia, Texas, Arizona, and Colorado. After taking a
course in ceramic arts, she developed a passion for
clay. That passion, combined with the knowledge of
drawing and painting, resulted in sculpture becoming her
primary work. Bobbe’s work can be seen in many public
installations. She also teaches workshops across the
country and is on permanent staff of the Creative Arts
Center of Dallas.
A
realist sculptor, Bobbe’s work conveys a spirit and
emotion through body language and composition. Bobbe
uses the figure to convey emotion in the same way that
an actor on stage portrays a mood with just a gesture or
movement of the body. For Bobbe, the figure is a never
ending source of inspiration, whether it is draped or
undraped, moving or passive, which can express every
range of emotion.
