Downtown
Longview businesses will remain open into
the evening Thursday for Art Walk, an
invitation from arts and other businesses
to stroll the sidewalks and sample local
cuisine and creativity.
At least
19 shops and museums are participating in
the self-guided walking tour set for 5 to
7 p.m. Thursday. That more than doubles
merchant participation in last fall's
first Art Walk.
Organizers
envision Art Walk as a way to help local
residents acquaint themselves with
downtown Longview and the artistic and
cultural community that calls it home.
"We
need to let Longview know they don't have
to go to the big city to purchase or
experience great art," said Tammy
Cromer-Campbell, owner of TCC Gallery
where a six-week exhibit of Dennis
Fagan's haunting images of horses starts
Thursday. "They can do it right here
in Longview."
Other
participating venues include the Longview
Museum of Fine Arts, The Denim Lounge,
The ARC Coffee Shop, Zowie's DTE
Interiors, Gerald's and the Gregg County
Historical Museum.
Several
sites will be offering food and
refreshment.
Campbell
said downtown organizers hope to hold Art
Walk twice annually, and are encouraging
local musicians to perform on corners, in
the Sculpture Garden at Fredonia and
Tyler streets and in Heritage Plaza. The
event loosely mirrors similar evening
walking tours in downtown arts districts
across the country.
In
addition to those above, the following
venues signed on to participate:
Shannon's
Beading Basket, Forbes and Butler Visual
Communications, Barry's Custom Framing,
Crafters Mall, That Girl's Boutique,
Portraits and More, ParTea Pizazz, George
Preston's Antiques, Salon Pink by Ricia
and Sheri, Java Lounge, Journi's Downtown
and the Longview News-Journal.
