About
the Artist
Material
plays a very important role in my work.
Exploration for me is the door of vision;
working with coal powder, clay, ground
metal, natural herbs, found materials or
pigments, each provides a new challenge,
a new language to explore. Found paper,
documents, maps, and ledgers provide a
springboard into time and connectedness
with the human dilemma. Philosophically,
I am influenced by both western and
eastern thought as well as the mystic
traditions - the magicians and
tricksters.
In terms of modern art history, I am in
awe of Victor Hugo's visionary
works...inspired by the likes of Redon,
Duchamp, deKooning... encouraged by
Pollack, Beuys, Rauschenberg...and
enchanted by the possibilities that lie
ahead.
Consideration and study of elements that
converged to compose planet earth is of
infinite interest to me, especially
within the context of the evolution of
life, culture, and belief systems. The
anthropological sociological, and
geological compostion of our world is my
source of truth. |
