Classroom   WATERCOLOR FOR KIDS

  Students will explore watercolor painting as they learn how to work with abstract compositions using geometric shapes.  They will learn how to mix watercolor paints using a triad of colors and then move on to painting a still life subject.

  This four-day workshop will begin with watercolor warm-up techniques to familiarize the student with this fluid, translucent medium.  The student will learn of compositional elements and the importance of saving the whites in their painting.  They will work on paintings from several designs provided in the class as well as watch demonstrations from the artist.

  This class is an introduction to two methods of printmaking: monotypes and linoleum block carving. Students will be encouraged to develop their own ideas for imagery, but they will be guided through techniques of carving the blocks and printing single and multiple color images.

  Students will explore the basic hand-building techniques of clay in this two day class. Small Sculptures and large pots will be made building from the pinch pot, with added coils and slab features.  These projects give students a large piece of satisfaction, and also work on the fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.  Class on Friday is provided with lunch.

  Raku is a form of Japanese pottery characterized by low firing temperatures, heavy metal glazes, and the removal of pieces from the kiln while still glowing hot. In the traditional Japanese firing process, the pot is removed from the hot kiln and put directly into water or allowed to cool in the open air. Raku is considered the traditional method for creating bowls for the Japanese tea ceremony.  This workshop uses basic techniques -- no prior experience necessary.  Please feel free to bring a snack and drink (both days) and lawn chair (August 2) to this class. All Materials Included. (Lunch will be provided July 19.)
