2006 Summer Art
Schedule
All students need to enter through the double brown doors in the alley marked “Longview Museum of Fine Arts” under the first brown canopy.  The one-way Bank Alley drop-off/pick-up is between Tyler & Methvin Streets.  Minors will need to be signed in and out upon arrival and departure.  Parents/Guardians are welcome and encouraged to join their children and attend classes – cost listed is per individual.  LMFA members may take 10% off tuition costs.  All classes include art supplies.

This class for young artists builds skills through the hands-on activities kids love most with an introduction to painting, drawing, cutting, and pasting.  Learning about materials through play, and supporting the joy of the imagination, is at the heart of this class.  Caregivers welcome-no cost.  Potty-trained students, please!

Marvel at Marbleizing

Students will explore the art of marbling – floating paints on paper to create intricate designs.  Apply different media to images you discover hidden in the swirls of your marbleized papers.

Explore lights to darks in your own composition using oil paints, washes and prismacolor pencils.  Fantastic effects can be created.  Come prepared with what you’re going to draw the first class.

Young artists will gain a unique understanding of the ceramics process from start to finish.  Basic methods of hand-building including pinch, slab and coil construction will be explored.

If you think you can’t draw, here’s a class just for you!  In five short sessions you can learn how to draw the four basic shapes that will let you re-create exactly what you see…and how much fun it can be to put it on paper.  Bring a willingness to learn!

Create artworks using trash, junk and other commonly discarded and found objects.  Creating junk sculpture, students will not only be recycling, but discovering their own perceptions of beauty in art.  One child’s trash is another child’s treasure!

If what you draw just doesn’t look quite right, learning artist’s perspective will improve your art.  You will learn how to transfer a 3-D scene that you see…to a flat 2-D surface.  Class exercises cover the fundamentals of one, two and three point perspective in easy to understand terms.

This start-from-scratch primer workshop takes you from the basics of exposure, manipulation of depth of field and shutter speed to the ultimate goal of creating compelling.  Gain a sold technical foundation that permits you to take photos you’ve always wanted as well as push your creative side.  Digital or 35mm camera needed.  Field trips will be discussed as a class.

Explore this ancient art of fusing powdered & lump glass to copper in a kiln.  Learn a variety of techniques: sifting, wet-packing, sgraffito on different projects.
