Stop Animation

Inspire creative thinking and problem solving with stop motion videos. Students will use a variety of media while thinking through their “visual script,” music and narration. Create images to record and edit together developing a unique and entertaining visual story. Students will need to bring a sketchbook and download the free app, “Stop Motion” on their cell phones.

In-depth study of light & composition. Discussion of panoramic photos and using guides within camera software. Learn how to edit photos using mobile apps and post online. Learn some basic applications of Photoshop.

Metal Sculpture

Explore the Fun World of Metal Sculpture. Create 3-D Sculptures using the MIG welding process. Wear long sleeves, long pants, socks, closed toe shoes and safety glasses. Welding gloves and helmet provided.

Mixing It Up with Mixed Media

Explore a wide array of artistic mediums such as acrylics, oils, pastels, watercolor & collage through the creation of 4-5 varying art pieces. Emphasis will be given on beginner drawing and painting skills. Learn basic skills and knowledge of various media, create art and have fun!

Learning to Draw in Three Dimensions
Study one and two point linear perspective exploring how to make a space appear three dimensional. Work in the classroom for most of the week and finish up drawing from the downtown area.

Finding Value in
Pen & Ink

Learn how to shade objects using a variety of pen & ink techniques including hatching, cross-hatching, stippling and scumbling. Students will have the opportunity to try out different techniques and then will spend the rest of the week working on creating dynamic images with a range of values.

Intro to the
Potter’s Wheel

Fall in love with the potter’s wheel again, or for the first time! Students will feel comfortable at week’s end throwing a variety of objects. Finished ware will be kiln fired and ready for glazing. Wear clothes you don’t mind getting muddy!

Glue-A-Shoe

Create visual puns using shoes as the basis for artwork. Brainstorm ideas and spend the week constructing sculptures. Completed sculptures will be eligible to enter the State Fair of Texas Glue-A-Shoe contest. Students need to provide their own shoe for their base- any kind is fine.

Study printmaking using linoleum blocks. Students will be encouraged to develop their own ideas for imagery with guided techniques for carving. Students will also be screen printing so bring an object to print on such as a tee-shirt or canvas handbag.
