Purpose: To teach adults who have a sincere interest in developing skills and improve their desire to draw. This workshop is designed for advanced beginners to intermediate. It is being created as an extension to the workshop that was offered in September and in November.
Goals: This course is structured to help participants learn how to grow their drawing abilities through the use of charcoal, pencil and pen and ink. It will focus on the development of perception, observation, skill and application.
Expectations: Each participant is expected to come with an open mind to instruction, the ability to ‘let go’ and try new techniques outside their comfort zone, and to be able to relax and realize they are not going to create a ‘master piece’ during each class. We may end with a drawing or two that you will be very pleased with. Class will start punctually to maximize every minute available.
Instructors Statement: Mary Jean (Jeannie) Davis has over thirty years teaching experience in the public schools and has taught private lessons in her home and at Longview Museum of Fine Arts. She works primarily in soft pastels and has had work accepted in National and International shows from Cape Cod, to Santa Fe, New Mexico.
She had a piece that was at the Salmagundi Club in the American Impressionist Society International show in New York City during the month of September. Most recently she has two pieces that have been juried into the Arkansas Pastel Society’s show in Little Rock, Arkansas and The Nine Muses show at the R.W. Norton Gallery in Shreveport, Louisiana.
She believes every person has the potential to discover their artistic voice in a variety of methods. However, just like most athletes, musicians, dancers or performers, the potential has to be developed. Drawing can be a step to create the insight necessary to express or simply to document the world around us.
