Purpose: To teach adults who have a desire to learn a little about perspective. Some knowledge and drawing skills would be advantageous for students.
Goals: This course is structured to help participants learn how to look for those vanishing points, draw objects and things that look like they are going back in the distance and basically re-create three dimensional illusions on a two dimensional plane.
Expectations: Each participant is expected to come with an open mind to instruction, the ability to ‘let go’ and try new techniques outside their comfort zone. Class will start punctually to maximize every minute available.
Instructors Statement: Mary Jean (Jeannie) Davis has over thirty years teaching experience in the public schools and has taught private lessons in her home and at Longview Museum of Fine Arts. She works primarily in soft pastels and has had work accepted in National and International shows from Cape Cod, to Santa Fe, New Mexico. Most recently she had a piece that showed at the Salmagundi Club in the American Impressionist Society International show in New York City during the month of September. She currently has work being shown at the R.W. Norton museum in Shreveport, Louisiana and in the Arizona Pastel Society’s national show in Sedona, Arizona.
She believes every person has the potential to discover their artistic voice in a variety of methods. However, just like most athletes, musicians, dancers or performers, the potential has to be developed. Learning and understanding perspective is an avenue to create the world many artist would like to learn how to record.
