It’s about getting together as a group and sketching once a month at a variety of locations around East Texas. Seeking downtown areas that have interesting architecture, like old courthouses, storefronts, churches and beautiful old homes on tree lined streets.
The sketches we do on location are not works of art, it’s about capturing the moment as each of us sees it. It’s about learning from others and having a good time. So don’t be intimidated about your drawing skills, believe me they will improve by drawing on location faster than you can imagine. Remember you don’t need a lot of equipment, a small sketch book and a pen will do — even add a small palette of watercolor for washes.
We meet at 10 o’clock in the morning and spend a few hours sketching. This could be just pen and ink or ink and color wash, it could also be pastel and pencil. Then we gather together for a “throw down”. This is where we display our sketches and it’s not mandatory — if you don’t want to show your work, you don’t have to. After the throw down we can all have lunch together and share our experiences and expectations.
