From the Valley House Gallery and Sculpture Garden’s website: “My training as a printmaker has influenced the way I work today. Early on, I was known for my monoprints that were painted on plexiglass and then printed on paper with an etching press. The technique was painterly and immediate. The ghost image left on the plexiglass was always intriguing. More and more, the possibility of using the painted plexiglass as the finished piece became apparent. The transparency, and looking through one layer to the next, set up all sorts of spatial possibilities.”
“My surroundings have always inspired my subject matter. Hints of Texas, New Mexico, and a recent trip to Italy establish a sense of place. Where I played as a child near White Rock Lake holds strong memories. As a child, I noticed the flowers. Today, gathering them to arrange a still life is a happy part of my process.”
“The cube is an important new player in this body of work. Its clarity as a 3-dimensional geometric object enters the story with various meanings. Initially the cube’s value is in spatial relationships, and then various meanings are conjured as the block becomes a pedestal for a flower or evokes a child at play.”
