The Talking Stick

Inspired by storytelling traditions where a Talking Stick is used to create respectful spaces for listening and sharing, this class invites students to explore how art can represent ideas, stories, and personal expression.

Students will begin by learning about the symbolism of the Talking Stick and how objects can be used to communicate meaning and encourage respectful dialogue within a community.

Each camper will then design and create their own Talking Stick using natural branches and mixed media materials. Students will decorate their sticks with beads, yarn, ribbon, feathers, and other textured elements while exploring ideas of symbolism, storytelling, and artistic expression.

Cat’s Eye Weaving

Students will explore traditional weaving techniques known as the Cat’s Eye, or Ojo de Dios. Using simple sticks and colorful yarn, students will learn how to build layered geometric patterns whole experimenting with color, rhythm, and symmetry. As their weaving grows, students will embellish their pieces with beads, feathers, and found objects to create a unique hanging sculpture. This project introduces cultural storytelling, fiber art techniques, and personal expression while encouraging patience and creativity.

Fold & Create!

Get ready to fold, draw, and be amazed! In this playful and imaginative class, young artists will explore the magic of transforming paper into expandable works of art. Using simple folding techniques, students will create drawings that grow, stretch, and surprise—turning ordinary creatures, objects, and scenes into extraordinary, interactive masterpieces.

Through guided demonstrations and plenty of creative experimentation, kids will learn how to plan their drawings so that hidden parts are revealed when the paper is unfolded. From animals with secret features to objects that “come to life,” each project encourages storytelling, problem-solving, and artistic expression.

Perfect for curious and creative minds, this class combines hands-on fun with a touch of artistic magic—where every fold brings a new surprise!

Twisted Threads: Yarn Art

Get ready to layer, design, and create! In this fun and colorful class, young artists will use yarn and their imagination to build unique works of art full of texture and personality.

Students will explore arranging and layering different colors and lengths of yarn to create bold designs, playful patterns, and imaginative pictures. From swirling lines to soft shapes, they’ll discover how simple materials can come together to make eye-catching, one-of-a-kind creations.

Perfect for kids who love hands-on creativity, Twisted Threads is all about experimenting, having fun, and bringing art to life—one layer at a time!

Framed in Elegance

Taught by artist Roberta Bridges, this hands-on class, students will transform a simple frame into a one-of-a-kind piece of art by embellishing it with sparkling jewels, unique found objects, and even personal keepsakes. Whether you bring small mementos from home or choose from a variety of provided materials, you’ll learn how to thoughtfully arrange and secure each element to create a design that reflects your personal style and story.
