Martha Berry is an award-winning Cherokee bead
artist and registered citizen of the Cherokee Nation.
Born and raised in northeastern Oklahoma, she
learned sewing as a child and was making her own
clothes by age nine. After working as a seamstress,
she later dedicated her skills to researching and
creating beadwork inspired by the Southeastern
Woodlands Native American traditions.
Her work often reflects Cherokee stories, history,
and cultural knowledge. In recognition of her
contributions to preserving Cherokee heritage,
she was named a Cherokee National Treasure in
2013, received the Tradition Bearer Award in 2015,
and was honored as a Cherokee Nation Honored
Elder in 2023. She currently lives in Texas with her
husband, Dave
